About

Fictional Book Covers is a blog where I post covers from books that don’t exist, written by authors that I invented.

Why? Because creating images in GIMP is something that I do when I’m bored, and some of those images happen to be book cover designs.

Where did the idea come from? Well, I was a NaNoWriMo participant in 2012. I was looking for a good public domain image that would make a nice cover for my novel, when I thought “Hey, each of these images could be a cover on their own.” I didn’t find the perfect image, so I ended up drawing the cover myself, and with the idea for this blog as a result of the search.

Not all covers on this blog use public domain images, though. A lot of them are actually made from scratch. All covers use free fonts, most of which are under the SIL Open Font License.

When covers do use public domain pictures, they are likely to be found on Pixabay, which is an awesome website.

The covers are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license, which means they can be used for almost everything, as long as you give me credit. A link to this blog will do.
